Daylight-Infused Learning
At the heart of the design is a new Library that maximizes natural daylighting and opens directly into a shared collaboration area. This space connects seamlessly to the adjacent Flex Science Classroom, offering opportunities for integrated projects and hands-on experimentation.
With direct access to outdoor learning areas, students can extend their reading, research, and science activities beyond the classroom walls into engaging outdoor environments.
Designed for Interaction
The standard classrooms were also designed with innovation in mind, featuring a central “Collaboration Corridor” that links all rooms together.
Sliding glass doors encourage cross-collaboration between classrooms, while flexible “sticky spaces” within the corridor provide opportunities for spontaneous interaction, peer-to-peer learning, and small group activities.
These design features empower teachers and students to move fluidly between independent and collaborative modes of instruction.
A Culture of Innovation
More than a replacement for temporary buildings, the new Library and Classroom Building transforms Skyblue Mesa Elementary into a modern learning environment that fosters creativity, exploration, and connection.
By combining flexible indoor and outdoor spaces with thoughtful circulation and collaboration zones, SGH Architects created a facility that not only supports today’s educational needs but also inspires a culture of innovation for years to come.
