Lake Arrowhead Community Services District

The Lake Arrowhead Community Services District (LACSD) selected us to design their new Corporate Yard Facility. Located within the center of their service district, this new facility consolidates crucial service personnel, materials, equipment, and services. The new space has centralized mechanic and maintenance work areas with suitable storage areas, allowing for services to be delivered more efficiently and with quicker response times.

The design is a contextual architectural response using a simple structural system and a cost-effective building envelope to create a useful and flexible facility.

The new design’s site features include fuel storage, bulk material storage, and ample equipment parking areas. These features provide better efficiency for the daily services, as well as a central command post for any emergency event.
The project includes a mechanics shop, maintenance shop, administrative workspaces, supervisory control and data acquisitions (SCADA) monitoring, a flexible training room, and shower/locker facilities.

Barstow Community College District – New Maintenance and Operations Facility

Barstow Community College District

The Barstow Community College District’s Maintenance and Operations unit currently works out of several different buildings on the campus. We were tasked with consolidation of the unit and combine them with a larger warehouse configured for larger palletized deliveries.

The new building will house an information technology staging area, storage and imaging area for the entire college. Moving these functions out of other buildings on the campus allowed for more efficient use of the spaces for other programs.

The building is a cost-effective metal building solution with useful mezzanine spaces for staff and storage uses.
A solar carport structure is strategically placed to help divert afternoon winds from the large roll-up warehouse doors, and provide solar generated power for use in charging the unit’s many electric-powered vehicles.

Redlands Packing House District – Phase Two

Property One, LLC

The second phase of the popular Redlands Packing House District is now underway. SGH Architects has been retained to provide full architectural services for Phase Two. The project is comprised of two buildings totaling 15,250 square feet slated for restaurant and retail establishments.

Located immediately south of Redlands Packing House District Phase One, the architectural character of Phase Two borrows cues from the rich Redlands agrarian character of the historic citrus packing houses of the late 20th century.

J. Riley Distillery

Property One, LLC

The J. Riley Distillery — a staple of artisan craft spirits in Redlands — is a project that includes a renovation of an existing automotive-use building and an additional new restaurant. SGH Architects goals was to create a unique and appropriate identity for the locally owned and operated distillery and restaurant. Our design takes advantage of the mild climate and capitalizes on the many uses the outdoor spaces provide.

The distillery’s functions will be housed within the 2,800 square foot former auto repair building and the restaurant is within a new 4,500 square foot building at the prominent northwest corner of Eureka Street and Oriental Avenue.

The architectural character of the project recalls former uses of the land and area that are both agrarian and industrial, which is reflected in the massing, material use and site organization.

East Whittier City School District STEM Classrooms

East Whittier City School District

When the East Whittier City School District selected SGH Architects to design their new STEM classrooms at three middle school campuses, they had a fairly good idea of what they wanted; flexibility, connection to outdoor learning, connection between classrooms to encourage collaboration, open volumes, and minimal finishes to mitigate maintenance.

While focusing on the needs of District, facilities staff, and educators we were able to successfully translate their vision into efficient classroom spaces that fosters creativity for programs such as robotics, rocket labs and physics to thrive in a middle school setting.

High school STEM educators were involved in the development of the programs to help students better prepare to enter high school with a greater understanding of the STEM pedagogy.
The new buildings are strategically located on the campus to take advantage of other science and arts classrooms for natural cross-collaboration integration.
