Marshall Early Education Center

Garvey School District

Garvey School District’s Marshall Early Education Center beautifully represents the rebirth of an aging facility on the brink of demolition – now breathing new life into surrounding families and communities in San Gabriel, California.

With early education programs needed to serve Garvey School District’s families a top priority, the District partnered with the Los Angeles County Office of Education to develop the Marshall Early Education Center, an 18,900 square foot facility located in the heart of San Gabriel.  The District site, once a shuttered 90-year-old elementary school, now serves 4 surrounding communities and has become a source of pride for the local area.

SGH Architects was honored to be a part of this historic facility’s transformation by providing innovative and strategic design solutions that supported the educational program needs, all while keeping the project’s budget below the renovation cost threshold for replacement.  This historic elementary school site (State Application Number 455 – approved in 1934) has been completely transformed into a state-of-the-art early education facility that will empower children and their families for many generations to come.

Riverside Preparatory Academy New Locker Room and Office Spaces

Oro Grande School District

Riverside Preparatory Academy in Oro Grande, California, commissioned SGH Architects to design a permanent Locker Building and an Office Building for their high-desert campus that contains both the middle school and the high school. This project represents the first permanently constructed buildings on an all-modular building campus, and are designed to be an integral component in support of the physical education programs at Riverside Preparatory Academy.

As a result of its centralized location, as well as a unifying contextual curved roof gesture, building orientations, protective canopies, and exterior spaces for student and instructor interactions, the project provides a prideful & symbolic connection between the two campuses. The buildings are constructed of CMU, metal roof trusses, composite metal wall panels and the Locker Building incorporates clerestory glazing under a large canopy to allow natural lighting into the spaces throughout the day.

The Locker Building serves both the middle school and high school students and has both a dedicated weight room with a large operable door to allow weight training to occur outside, as well as a dedicated dance studio. The Office Building provides support facilities and space for trainers, the nurse’s office and much needed laundry & gear storage for the programs.

Skyblue Mesa Elementary School Library and Classroom Addition

Saugus Union School District

As part of the District’s relocatable replacement program, SGH Architects designed a new 10,000 SF Library, Flex Science Classroom, and Standard Classroom Building that houses 6 rooms. The Library takes advantage of natural daylighting and opens into a shared collaboration area with the Science Classroom as well as access to outdoor learning spaces where students can read and experiment with science-related projects. The Classrooms also occupy a shared “Collaboration Corridor” for learning opportunities where sliding glass doors allow for cross-collaboration and “sticky spaces” that encourage spontaneous learning.

iMake Innovation Center

Riverside Community College District

SGH Architects was engaged to design the Moreno Valley College’s iMake program, a state-of-the-art space as part of a significant renovation of the existing first floor Science and Technology space. The new iMake Innovation Center (Makerspace) is a collaborative space where students have access to high-tech tools, machinery, computer programs, materials, and support. Complete interior design and reconstruction was accelerated to accommodate the needs of the District and College.

Starbucks Coffee Shop

Property One, LLC

SGH Architects was commissioned to develop a unique drive-through coffee shop within the transit village area adjacent to the commuter rail platform. Visiting rail passengers, local residents, and out-of-town guests parking in the new 3rd Street Parking Structure can easily grab a cup of coffee to start their day – or enjoy the outdoor ambiance of Redlands’ Packing House District.

The design for the coffee shop is unique with its welcoming butterfly roof, materials that harken to the agrarian-rich history of the area, and its pedestrian-friendly patios.

The project features a convenient drive-through to serve those dropping their commuters off or for those discovering the newest additions to the downtown transit area.
The materials we used are reminiscent of Redlands' agrarian-rich history
Walkability, appropriately lush landscaping and many pedestrian features accentuate this project prominently located on the southeast corner of Eureka Street and Stuart Avenue.
We focused on user-experience design. Who doesn't like to get coffee in sunny Redlands?
