Granite HIlls High School Stadium and Athletic Complex

Apple Valley Unified School District

Apple Valley Unified School District’s Granite Hills High School has been playing football home games at rival Apple Valley High School since opening its doors in 1999. The New Stadium and Athletic Complex project will finally allow the school to host its own home games and showcase Cougar spirit!

The Stadium is Phase I of a multi-phase 40-acre master plan adjacent to the existing campus that wishes to incorporate not only high school athletics and academics but create more community interaction and outreach opportunities as well.

The program for the new facility will incorporate an artificial turf football and soccer field, all-weather track, 5,000 seat capacity bleachers, concession and restroom buildings, and team locker rooms. Additionally, coaches, trainers, and officials’ offices and a state-of-the-art weight room create more space for program expansion and training facilities.

After decades of anticipation, the new home for the Granite Hills High School Cougars is closer now than ever before.

Esri Building N

Esri

The recent building addition on the Esri campus in Redlands, California is one of the company’s newest adaptive re-use projects – the conversion of a former post office building into a viable and sustainably responsible office building. Esri’s Building N served as the region’s local post office until 2020 and is now an office building that is fully integrated into the fabric of the Esri campus.

Expansive outgoing mail staging areas have been transformed into inviting exterior collaboration spaces. Large photovoltaic panels extend across the existing roof structure and outward to adjacent parking and service areas, creating opportunities to offset the energy resources used by the facility. Adaptive reuse of the building’s original skylights brings sustainable natural light deep into the newly designed interior circulation and collaborative spaces. The re-imagined front entrance incorporates a warm, natural wood-clad trellis structure that visually softens the concrete walls and clearly demarcates the main entryway – all while aligning the building identity with the surrounding Esri campus.

With connected landscaped pathways, sustainable energy and lighting features, and interior and exterior spaces that facilitate collaboration, this transformation from a once bland mail processing area into an active and engaging office space is now complete.

Imperial Elementary School Additions and Modernizations

Downey Unified School District

Downey Unified School District selected SGH Architects to plan and design Modernizations and New Building Additions at Imperial Elementary School. This site has seen little in the way of upgrades and not only requires the aging structures to be upgraded to accommodate the District’s vision of transforming their schools into state-of-the-art learning facilities, but also new classroom and support buildings to replace aging relocatable classrooms.

Features being designed at this site will include: state-of-the-art classrooms and flexible lab spaces, new modern library/media center, Administration spaces, Kinder and TK classrooms play areas, outdoor learning spaces, new hardcourt and play areas, parent and bus drop off, and staff and visitor parking.

Conceptual designs created by SGH Architects gave Downey Unified School District a glimpse of Imperial Elementary School’s re-imagined campus, sparking the conversation of future expansion for the school.

The transformation of the campus changes the energy and flow of the students and teachers - creating pathways that are both more efficient and breed interactions.
The campus feels familiar - and yet completely new at the same time.

Disability Support Program & Services (DSPS) Building

Imperial Valley College

Imperial Valley College’s New Disability Support Program & Services (DSPS) Building provides students with special needs and disabilities with their own accessible building to help support and meet their academic goals.  Supporting students with autism, intellectual and learning disabilities, physical disabilities, visual and hearing impairment, chronic medical conditions, and mental health conditions such as anxiety and/or depression, this new facility creates a learning resource center full of assistive technology and supportive staff.

DSPS counselors, academic advisors, and media specialists utilize the 9 offices, conference room, computer lab, study room, and test proctor room to accommodate the unique learning needs of eligible students.

The DSPS Program was founded in 1988 and was previously housed within the Health and Science Building on the Imperial Valley College Campus.  This new 4,000 sf facility provides the foundation for success for many students as they pursue their academic development.

"This building has been a total blessing to the students at Imperial Valley College." Wendy Prewett, DSPS Director
After years of discussion and planning, the DSPS Building at Imperial Valley College is now ready to serve students' needs.

Liberty High School Engineering Agriscience and Farming Academy

Golden Valley Unified School District

Nestled in the heart of California’s agricultural breadbasket, Liberty High School’s LEAF Academy in Madera, California represents the culmination of over a decade of planning, collaboration, advocacy, and passion for Golden Valley Unified School District (GVUSD) and its surrounding agricultural community.  With Madera County producing over $2 billion in agricultural commodities each year, the vision to expand and preserve the proud legacy of agriculture through CTE pathways at GVUSD is well underway.

Boasting stellar FFA and 4-H membership within their county and District, GVUSD’s vision to create a new Engineering Agri-Science and Farming Academy at Liberty High School was wholeheartedly supported.  The design team was tasked with guiding the programming as they developed the master plan for the CTE site, bringing the community’s vision to life through a thorough community planning process.

Automotive, Welding and Metal Shop, Woodshop, Ornamental Horticulture, Forming Technology, and Animal Sciences were selected as the first phase of development, with room for expansion to Culinary Arts and Catering, Butchering, Water Treatment and Filtration, and Advanced Farming Techniques in future phases.  Working with both the District and CTE grant writers, SGH Architects helped GVUSD claim the 3 highest scores for rural school districts in the CTE program – awarding the district nearly $9M in funding for this project.

With a passionate agricultural community driving the planning conversations, the LEAF Academy is a direct reflection of both the rich heritage and the future farming innovation of this District and community.

The LEAF Academy boasts a future Net Zero Energy (with the possibly of Net Positive) footprint once measurements can be quantified.
Boasting private partnerships with local businesses, universities, and farming associations, the opportunities provided by this facility to its student and community are endless.
